Copper Foil Floral Panel
Conservation
Materials: multicolored opalescent textured glass, blue and yellow marble jewels, copper foil
A rectangular copper foiled stained glass panel (dimensions 20” W x 34” H) depicting a flowing, symmetrical floral motif. Several pieces of glass had broken in the lower left corner after sustaining damage. This also caused the panel to be bent outwards, warping the copper foiling. A shard of broken glass had also been lost.
The panel was gently flattened with iron weights on both sides, and all broken pieces were meticulously labeled. 54 cracks were cleaned and rejoined using Hxtal NYL-1 (a museum grade epoxy), and a color matched epoxy infill was applied to the piece of glass with a missing shard. The panel was then cleaned and photographed in reflected and transmitted light.
