Did you know?
Stained glass windows are made of individual pieces of glass held by lead strips that look like tiny I-beams in cross section.
Lead is an amazingly malleable material, so it can easily be shaped around glass pieces. But over decades, it may continue to bend, causing an entire window to bow. The lead can also oxidize or become brittle, creating structural and health hazards. Other components also can fail over time. Old putty can disintegrate, resulting in air and water leaks. Cracked or broken glass elements can further compromise the structural integrity of a piece. A myriad of factors (including: UV exposure, strong winds, moisture, vandalism, wear-and-tear) can further hasten these processes. That is why all stained glass windows require periodic maintenance.
As certified lead and asbestos workers, we expertly preserve your windows and protect you from exposure to hazardous materials.
